Step-by-Step Guide: How to Measure for Lipedema Compression Garments.

Measuring correctly is the first step to finding the right compression garment. Whether you're preparing for surgery, recovering, or managing daily symptoms, fit is everything. This guide explains exactly how to measure - with tips based on your stage of treatment.

What Type of Garment Do You Need?

LIPOELASTIC offers compression garments for before surgery, after surgery, and everyday wear. Each requires careful measuring - but your approach may differ slightly.

Before surgery:

As swelling will occur after the procedure, you can refer to your pre-op measurements when choosing your garment. During recovery, you can adjust the size of your garment (with the Variant fastening).

After surgery:

Measure in the morning, when swelling is usually less pronounced, for the most accurate sizing.

Everyday wear:

Measure carefully - you’ll likely wear this garments for long periods, so comfort and precision matter.

In all cases, we recommend measuring firmly and precisely — for lipedema, a tight but accurate measurement ensures optimal compression and better results.

What You’ll Need

A soft measuring tape

A mirror or helper for hard-to-reach areas

A pen or your phone to note measurements

Time to measure first thing in the morning

How to Measure for Leg Garments

1. Ankle

Measure just above the ankle bone at the narrowest point.

2. Calf

Find and measure the widest part of your calf.

3. Knee

Measure above the kneecap.

4. Thigh

Measure the widest part of the upper thigh.

5. Hips and Waist

For leggings or full-leg garments, measure the widest point of your hips and the narrowest point of your waist.

Tip: Measure both legs — if they differ, choose the larger measurement. You may need a custom-made garment if you're between sizes.

How to Measure for Arm Garments

1. Wrist

2. Forearm

3. Elbow

4. Upper Arm

Take the circumference of the widest part.

5. Bust or Shoulder (if needed)

For boleros or vests, you may also need chest or underbust measurements.

Not Sure About Sizing?

If your measurements fall outside the standard chart, LIPOELASTIC offers custom-made compression garments. These can provide better comfort and precision, especially for complex or advanced-stage lipoedema.
